Early Season Accomplishments: The Wheelworks Multisport Tri-season is off to a great start. A group of determined teammates braved the cold and the rain at the New England Season Opener in Hopkington in mid-May. Medena Knespl won 1st place overall and Caitlin Clavette was 3rd in her age group!
The Asland Lions Olympic Tri the First weekend of June also saw Medena atop the podium with great finishes by Sherman Roberts (1st in AG), Andrew Fink (2nd in AG), and Anne Traer (2nd in AG).
The New England Tri-fest in Fairlee, Vermont was held on a hot and humid day, but that didn’t stop Tony Leach from finishing 2nd in his AG and 15th overall. Dale Nepert (2nd in AG) and Jane Carbone (3rd in Aquabike) also topped the podium. David Crelling had a strong race with 4th in AG, while Anne Traer limped in at 9th in AG after a horrible 10K run in the heat. Alison Ballard also did an impromptu Aqua-bike for the half distance.
Whaling City Sprint Triathlon brought out a large group of teammates (~20) to race and win 4th place in the Tri-team challenge! Medena Knespl was 2nd overall, Sunny Schettler was 1st in Div and Kristin Pitocco was 2nd in AG!
Other fun team activities in June included a Yoga for Triathletes Clinic at WWMS team sponsor, Be Yoga Studios, in Union Square And an epic 135 mile ride from Boston to Provincetown, led by Jon Chesto with more than 20 teammates joining for part of the ride and 13 completing the entire course! Training Weekend 2013 - About 30 teammates made their way up to the White Mountains for training weekend. Andrea and Beck did a great job of setting up a grand weekend! Rides on Saturday included ranged from 40 – 100 miles with some teammates running both before and/or after. Richard, one of the owners of the Franconia Inn, showed us some great new routes and the Inn staff treated us like elite athletes! 15 teammates topped the Kanc and special shout-out to Sergey and Kristen P for finishing a 100 miles with Agassiz Hill (18.5% grade) at mile 90! Emma spotted a bear on her 15 mile run before breakfast (luckily, the bear did not make breakfast of her!). The dozen Sunday morning swimmers reported that Streeter Pond is warm enough to swim in, but watch out for all the slimy vegetation on the entrance ramp. We even recruited a new member along the way – welcome to the team, Amy! The only casualties this year were several inner-tubes and potentially Aaron’s bottle of Blueberry Moonshine! More photos are available in the FB Training Weekend 2013 album. What a great start to the season!
Great turn out for a rainy day at the New England Season Opener on May 12th! Teammates, Medena Knespl won the women’s elite field and Caitlin Clavette got on the podium for her AG! David McNeil had a PR and Jane won some swag in a dancing competition that followed the awards! More photos on Wheelworks Facebook Page Great job all!
The Wheelworks Multisport team wishes to express our support to all those impacted by the terrible events yesterday at the Boston Marathon. We are grateful that all of our teammates running, volunteering and cheering are safe and accounted for. We are proud of of our teammates Jon Chesto (2:39:34), Jordan Vance (3:00:04), Emma Kosciak (3:35:52) and Chris Beltz (who’s race was cut short a half mile from the finish line) and of all those who came out to support the runners. Today, the sun is shining and I can not think of a better thing to do than to put on my running shoes, go for a run and lift up in my heart all those impacted by this tragedy. -Anne T.
Come be inspired by our featured speaker, elite triathlete Karen Smyers! Tri-Night, a fundraiser for the team and CYCLE Kids, will be held on April 28 at the Wheelworks Belmont shop. Great raffle prizes! Team members and non-team members are welcome.

There’s no better place to warm up than at a classy bar with fellow Wheelworkers. We’ll be at TRADE on the waterfront where “woodsy industrial” meets “wine racks masquerading as wooden filing cabinets” and “communal tables crafted from old sewing machines.”

Recruiting Fun-Runs: All Welcome!
Happy New Year, all!
We’ve got a Saturday morning in Boston (Brighton) and a Sunday afternoon in Cambridge (Kendall Square) in order to try to accommodate all schedules.
Saturday, January 12th at 9am: Meet at Chestnut Hill Reservoir DCR parking lot in Cleveland Circle, just past the Reilly Skating Rink, approx 2402 Beacon St. Boston (this is where we’ve met in years past for the ice cream bike ride – if you’re coming from Boston down Beacon St it’s a free parking lot on your right just past the indoor skating rink).
Sunday, January 20th at 1pm: Meet outside of Mead Hall in Kendall Square, 4 Cambridge Center, Cambridge.
For both runs we will run for approximately 3 miles (slow group) or 5 miles (faster group). These are approximate and might change depending on who shows up! Also, there will be refreshments provided after each run (location TBD).
Hope to see you there!
